Welcome to Walton on Naze

Walton-on-the-Naze is a seaside town which attracts many visitors - the Naze being the main attraction - a peninsular north of the town.  It is important for migrating birds and has a small nature reserve.  The marshes of Hamford Water are of ornithological interest with wintering ducks and Brent geese - very popular with many birders, particularly at migration times. Sadly, the coastline here has been subject to quite severe erosion over the years, to such as extent that the Naze has become popular for schools investigating erosion and ways to protect the coast.  However,  at the foot of the cliffs, made of predominantly London Clay which is over 50 million years old - you can still find fossils here  including sharks' teeth, whale bones and dinasaur poo!

The Hanoverian tower, known as the Naze Tower, once a sea mark to assist ships, is now privately owned and open to visitors as an art gallery and cafe.

Seal watching is available during the summer months around the backwaters - taking a boat trip from Titchmarsh Marina you can explore the 'Secret Water' which was the setting for Arthur Ransome's 'Swallows and Amazons'.

There is also a pier with arcade games, a fun fair and other amusements and a bowling alley.

The old Lifeboat House dating from 1884 now houses the Walton Maritime Museum and is a grade II listed building.
