Virtual Tour

Residing in a secluded East to West plot of half an acre and offering four bedrooms Gladstone Cottage oozes character throughout and this unlisted cottage has significant unrealised potential. Found in the charming semi-rural village of Tendring with excellent access to the A120 (A12/A133).

LOCATION

Gladstone cottage resides in the semi-rural village of Tendring equidistant between the historic market town of Manningtree and Thorpe le Soken which both offer main-line train stations with an approximate return time to London Liverpool Street / Stratford of an hour on the Intercity line.

Direct train travel is also available from Manningtree to Norwich, Ipswich, North of England and Cambridge (with a change en route) whilst Thorpe Le Soken's line serves Clacton Walton on the Naze and Colchester.

The village is central to the Tendring Peninsular to the East side of Colchester and offers an idyllic local life-style with beautiful countryside walks, bridleways and cycle-routes, farm shops, fantastic primary and secondary schools, rentable allotments, bus routes and well-kept recreation grounds / open-spaces never too far away. THE PROPERTY

Secluded from the road and positioned centrally in its generous 0.5 acre plot the original cottage is believed to date back to the 1700's but was painstakingly demolished and rebuilt in 1983 in a style both sympathetic and considerate to the original building. Throughout you will find red brick exposed walls, soft and hardwood exposed beams, Welsh quarry tiling, reclaimed paved walkways and vaulted ceilings to three of the bedrooms.

Quirky in charm, character and layout the first floor is currently divided into two separate wings with two independent landings (and staircases) each serving two bedrooms. The Principal bedroom (accessed from a spacious beamed and vaulted landing accessed up from the Living Room) is built into the gable end overlooking the rear garden featuring a floor to ceiling windows with fabulous views over the large plot and to paddocks/farmers fields beyond.

At the southern end of the property a second heavily beamed landing leads off to two further high vaulted bedrooms both with exceptional exposed beam work.

The cottage is unlisted and as such we believe it has unrealised potential for extension and remodelling subject to a potential buyers needs and planning.

The ground floor flows from a warm and welcoming entrance hall into a spacious living room backing onto the West facing rear garden. This room is triple aspect capturing the afternoon sun (South) through the day to dusk (west) and offers a wonderful perspective of the open space to the rear.

A modern bathroom and separate shower room found on the opposite side of the hall from the living room. Leading on from the entrance hall you will approach the shaker styled kitchen with Rayburn stove, stable door to conservatory and opening through to the Dining Room with exposed red brick feature wall and similarly to the Kitchen there are hardwood and oak vertical exposed beams a plenty to the walls and horizontal beam work to the ceiling. Here you will also find a central feature inglenook fireplace with Jotul log burner and stairs up to the Southern 'wing'.

GROUNDS

Stocked with Greengage, Walnut, Pear, Apple and ornamental trees the mature secluded front garden is a delight. Capturing the morning sun (East) you'll also find here a lawn retained by a semi-circular red brick wall (low) and a well-stocked vegetable patch with adjacent greenhouse.

Leading off from the road is a large shingle laid drive with parking for four(+) vehicles. This leads to both a gated access to the front/side garden and also to the two storey detached garage (light + power connected + hot and cold water and drainage out suitable for cloakroom/bathroom) with a very useful room above. This room currently accessed by permanent ladder is currently setup for storage yet the garage itself could see it's use change subject to your requirements. The garage has a personal door to the rear and even its own vehicle inspection pit.

Leading off the gate from the drive is an attractive block paved walkway spurring off to the front garden, storm porch and leading down the side of the house past a triple fronted log store to gated access serving the remainder of the large plot at the rear of the house.

The rear plot measures approximately 142' x 92' (from the rear of the cottage) and features a 'wildlife garden', pond to the rear and it backs on to paddock land. Predominately this expanse is laid to lawn and there is a good sized double fronted shed at hand, with power, to store that ride-on mower!
